Matthew 14:30-31   Don’t wait until you sink!

But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink cried out, “Lord, save me!”  Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught him.  “You of little faith” He said, “why did you doubt?”

As I meditated and “chewed” on this passage, the Lord revealed a couple of interesting points.

As we walk towards Jesus, (verse 29, Jesus said “Come”) sometimes we “sink” from fear and doubt but all we need to do is say “Lord, save me!” as Peter did.  And He does it immediately Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught him.

The opposite of faith is fear, doubt, confusion, uncertainty, lack of trust, etc.    Jesus asked Peter “why did you doubt?” --- I believe this is because He wants us to spend time asking ourselves, “where does this fear, doubt, etc. come from?”  Jesus wants us to stop and go deeper and discover the root problem so we can come to Him and let Him fix it!  Don’t ignore doubts because of embarrassment, instead embrace them and explore them because that’s what leads us to a deeper faith!  That’s why Jesus rebuked Peter – He wanted him to see and understand more!   Notice there is no hesitation on Jesus’ part to rescue Peter, He loves us and we need to remember to call on Him EVERY time we are in trouble.  Notice Peter cried out to Jesus as he was beginning to sink, he didn’t wait until the waves covered him.

Don’t be embarrassed to cry out when you get in too deep.  Be proactive, ask immediately the moment you sense you are in trouble, don’t be reactive and wait until the water is covering your head!   Let’s apply this lesson to our physical health.  If you are not walking in God’s plan of Divine Health, cry out to God and ask Him for answers --- ask Him for direction in getting healthy; whether you are dealing with pain, illness, inactivity, weight issues, eating issues, God does have the answer -- for He not only made our bodies, He KNOWS them even better than we do!  God designed our bodies “wonderfully” and wants us to feel good and have good energy to accomplish all the tasks He gives us.  Don’t wait until you have a serious problem, be proactive and seek information at the first sign of illness, pain, etc.   Maybe you’ve been sinking for awhile, don’t wait any longer, cry out NOW to Jesus, then LISTEN and get moving as God brings information into your path…. This may be in the form of doctors, friends, websites, magazines, etc…. God has many ways to speak to us --- if we are listening and willing to obey!

May God bless all of you and may you walk in Divine Health, knowing that you are being good stewards of your beautiful body – yes your body is beautiful made by the Master Artist!  We know we won’t always be able to fix every physical ailment, but I truly believe that if we respond proactively we can walk in the BEST possible health in any given situation!

Just a couple last thoughts to ponder from this lesson:

·        Would Peter’s faith have grown if he had not stepped out of the boat?

·        Would Peter’s faith have grown if he had not began to sink?

·        Would Peter’s faith have grown if he had not cried out to Jesus?

·        Would Peter’s faith have grown if Jesus had not caught him?

·        Would Peter’s faith have grown if Jesus had not asked him “why did you doubt”?

Take some time and “chew” the Word -- ask God how you can apply it to your life -- taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8) and discover new “flavors” in your faith today!  Just as Peter did!
